Cindy Piazza
Upon looking at her humble smile and spirit, one would never have known the trials that have crossed Cindy’s path.
Cindy Piazza is the first born of her brothers and sisters. She was born in Harlingen, Texas and raised in Rio Hondo. As the eldest she had many responsibilities. She was a great help to her father in the ministry. At the age of seven years old Cindy began singing. Her father would send recordings of her singing to the sick to comfort them.
It was at the early age of 12 years old that Cindy came face to face with a trial that would affect her future life. It started with an inflammation in her appendix. During Cindy’s surgery her appendix ruptured and was on the verge of leading her to death. God delivered her but the bacteria that spread through her body badly damaged her ovaries. The doctor sat down with Cindy after surgery and explained to her that she would not be able to have any children.
After Cindy was married and knowing that she could not have children, Cindy says that she was comforted when God opened her eyes to see that all the kindergarten children in the private school she ran were hers. For that reason she devoted herself to her kindergartners’. It was through her class that Cindy learned of her miracle. She says “they’d touch my stomach and ask me if I was having a boy or a girl.” Cindy said she thought nothing of it at the time and would respond to them that ‘they’ were her children. One week after, Cindy learned of her pregnancy.
In 1999 Joseph Piazza, her miracle son, was born but not without a struggle. When Joseph was born pre-maturely, again Cindy was faced with death. Both Joseph’s and Cindy’s heart stopped during the birth but God once again heard the powerful prayers of her family. The bad news continued five years later when her son got flu like symptoms while she was at a Women’s Conference. When she took him to the doctor he was diagnosed with a rare heart disorder called ‘Kawasaki Disease’ that occurs in 19 out of 100,000 kids in the United States. When her son was examined, Cindy says the doctors told her it might be too late. The doctors told Cindy that she needed to take him to a specialist as quickly as possible. Cindy says, “I first took Joseph to my brother Daniel, to pray for him, and there I thanked the Lord for giving me the opportunity to experience being a mother. I prepared myself to give Joseph back to the Lord because the Lord gave him to me. Whatever time the Lord gave me with my son was so precious to me.” Now Joseph is 9 years old, completely healed and healthy and competes in the Texas Junior Bible Quizzing tournament.
Cindy has been involved in the church all of her life. Cindy was a youth leader, an alternating Sunday school teacher for the adult class, over children‘s church, nursery director & music director all at the same time while still teaching, being principal of “Duran Academy” for 13 years, teaching voice lessons and lastly helping to raise a son with her husband Greg.
The people in Cindy’s life that she looks up to are her father and mother, David and Alicia Duran Sr; and her aunt Lisa Torres. Her favorite pastime is being with her husband and son. On her free time when not homeschooling her son, she spends hours in finding new songs to have something fresh and new for her church.
Cindy Piazza is the lead singer on the new album from “His Cadence”. Eagerly she waits for any opportunity she has each day to do what she loves to do best, vocalize and sing. When asked to describe herself in five words, she answered “I hide in His presence”. Successfully, with God’s help, Cindy Piazza has overcome every obstacle that has come to her life and still carries a smile of joy. One of her favorite scriptures is found in Psalms 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
